Team Dunamis FC have carved their place in history as champions of the maiden Kingdom Unity Games, a faith-inspired sporting event staged in Abuja to promote unity and showcase youth talent.

The competition, which brought together churches from across the Federal Capital Territory, aimed to use football as a tool for national cohesion, peacebuilding, and talent discovery.

The final match proved dramatic from the very first whistle, as Dunamis stunned ECWA Wumba with an opening goal straight from kickoff. Despite heavy pressure and the vocal support of their fans, Wumba failed to break Dunamis’ stubborn defense. At full time, Dunamis FC held firm to lift the trophy of the inaugural edition.

In the third-place playoff earlier in the day, ECWA Kwali edged ECWA Karasana by a lone goal in a tightly fought contest.

Convener of the Kingdom Unity Games, Ambassador Solomon Omonokhua, emphasized that the event transcended sport.

“This competition is about much more than football. It is about building bridges between churches, fostering peace and unity in the country, and most importantly, providing a platform for our youth to showcase their gifts. We are hopeful that some of the players here will catch the eye of scouts and clubs, and in turn, bring pride to Nigeria,” he said.

The federal government also threw its weight behind the initiative. Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Professor Bolaji Bernard said:

“At a time like this, we need the energy and creativity of our young people channeled into nation-building. Sports remain one of the most powerful tools for unity, peace, and development. That is why we will continue to support initiatives such as the Kingdom Unity Games.”

With a successful debut, expectations are high that the Kingdom Unity Games will become a fixture on Nigeria’s sporting calendar and a platform for discovering future stars.
