Team Zion Golfers, made up of Lynda Obieze, Bidemi Ojo, Fred Appah and Jimoh Ogundare, emerged champions of the maiden Catholic Golfers Charity Kitty after beating the field with an impressive performance.
The quartet returned a gross score of 61, combined handicap of four and a net score of 57 to clinch victory in the event themed “Swing to Serve with Love.”
They secured the top prize ahead of Team Lasgidi Banditos, who finished second on countback after also posting a net score of 57.
The charity golf kitty, staged at the Ikeja Golf Club, was organised to raise funds to support the mental health and wellbeing of priests, religious and consecrated persons.
Team Lasgidi Banditos, comprising Abiola Adewusi, Lynda Onwuazo, Femi Ajala and Omobola Omofaiye, recorded a gross score of 66 with a combined handicap of nine to settle for second place with a net score of 57.
The third position went to Team Ikeja Club, represented by Amusa Kilani, Muritala Rasaki, Mojeed Aberuagba and Anthony Akogwu. Playing off a combined handicap of three, the team posted a gross score of 61 and a net score of 58.
In the side category, Team Unique Sisters — Ihuaru Akachukwu, Olije Adekoya, Sotonye Wabote and Karin Ekpe — claimed the Best Dressed Group award.
The charity initiative was promoted by Rev. Fr. Michael Olofinlade through the St. Kizito Wellness Project, an initiative aimed at strengthening mental health support systems for clergy and consecrated persons.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Olofinlade explained that the competition was designed not only as a sporting activity but also as a platform to raise awareness and funds for mental health support within the clergy.
“This golf kitty is more than a game; it is a charity event dedicated to promoting robust mental health support for the clergy, religious and consecrated persons,” he said.
