The intensity among teams participating in the 7th Ibarapa sports fiesta has increased as the tournament draws close to an end.
The ongoing annual tournament which features marathon race, Inter-Community Football Tournament and Ayo Olopon Games in both male and female categories has witnessed thrilling actions since it started on December 15.
As the grand finale scheduled for December 28 draws closer, the two-week sporting event sponsored by the Olusegun Okanlawon Foundation (OOF) has elicited competitiveness among athletes at the grassroots.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the Director Media and Public Relations Unit, OOF, Comrade Sunday Harshasha said it is aimed at fostering unity, peace, and healthy competition among communities within the town in Oyo state.
“Ambassador Okanlawon remains committed to initiatives that unite the people of Ibarapa and promote collective development. The end-of-year events are structured to celebrate local talent, encourage interaction, and strengthen communal bonds,” he said.
He added that the foundation focuses on combining both sports and education, citing the just concluded second edition of the Olusegun Okanlawon Mathematics Competition for Senior Secondary Schools as a good example.
The Mathematics competition, which featured students from across Ibarapa, rewarded outstanding performance with cash prizes of N150,000, N100,000, and N50,000 for first, second, and third positions respectively,” he said.
Harshasha reiterated that the Foundation deploys both education and sports as practical tools for strengthening social cohesion across Ibarapa.
