I write to deliver the heartfelt complaints of Kano State primary school teachers to Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje with respect to recent minimum wage payments. Dr. Ganduje should know that the payment  has brought disquiet and displeasure to the numerous primary school teachers.

As the majority of civil servants were laughing, commending, and extending multitudes of compliments to Gov. Ganduje for this prompt payment of the new minimum wage, it has become imperative to say, primary school teachers are left in pains, anguish and tears. Failure to solve it will no doubt affect the morale of these teachers with resultant effects of not making the desired impact to the students’ education.

Also, it is interesting to hear that workers in some sectors of Kano State civil service received the increase of N6000, N15,000 up to N20,000 in their respective salaries, while in contrast, singling primary school teachers with paltry amounts. I am so hurt by this misfortune omission, hence my bringing it to public scrutiny. Many primary school teachers have complained of the fact that some civil servants got huge amounts while in a bewildering contrast, leaving them with meagre share that can’t assuage their grief for salary increment.

It is painful to hear that some teachers have been paid below N1000, while some received N2000, and based on what I heard from some sections of the media, not anyone with higher than N3000 as his minimum wage increase. Worse still is, some are yet to receive even the small increase of the minimum wage. Therefore, as concerned citizens, we are still yet to come to terms with the kind of salary scale used to arrive at these minimal figures.
