The demand came at the completion of a five-day training workshop on Science Laboratory Equipment Instrumentation that was organized by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Centre of Excellence for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT).
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) Dr. Ighodalo Ijagbone said success could only be achieved if majority of relevant persons in science and technology industry were fully aware of the importance of equipment maintenance in laboratories and workshops.
According to Ijagbone, since manufacturing of equipment is depended on development in technology, it is important that users be kept abreast with the new development through appropriate training courses. He also advised that technical staff should be given recognition by consulting them during procurement procedures, adding that new projects with provision of equipment should have a training component included and a provision for spare parts.
