The Area Postal Manager Lagos Island Territory, Mrs Mmayen Ujong has expressed concern over what she considered as threats being posed by new technologies to the business line.
Ujong made this known while speaking at the World Postal Day celebration which was held at Ojo, Lagos.
Speaking at the occasion to commemorate day tagged: innovation, integration and inclusion key drivers for the future of the post, Ujong said the traditional postal business line is endangered by faster and more efficient technologies.
“The traditional postal business line, through letter post is endangered by faster and more efficient communication due to advancement in information and communication technology. These challenges have given the post the impetus to innovate, diversify into a faster and more efficient communication medium on a new business value chain platform.
“The transformation in the postal world has been slow but gradual, however, the need for the post to take full advantage of new technologies to improve its business performance is paramount. The survival of the post hinges on the ability to quickly change and innovate. Customer expectations, needs and tastes are changing and the post must change as well to meet those new demands,” Ujong said.
