A 19-year-old ex-convict, Jibrin Ndako of Barikin-Sale area of Minna, Niger State capital, has been arrested by the police alongside Haruna Abubakar, 20, of Angwan-Kamfani and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18, of Kpakungu, Minna for alleged robbery.
The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement said the suspects were arrested in a hotel along Eastern Bye-Pass, Minna, where they had lodged.
He said three cutlasses and one industrial iron cutter were recovered from the suspects during the arrest.
Abiodun explained that during interrogation, Jibrin Ndako, who had just completed a jail term for theft of motorcycles, narrated that he met his accomplices from Agaie and brought them to Minna to join him in breaking into a provision store located at Barikin-Sale, Minna, before they were arrested by the police.
In a similar development, one Abubakar Sadiq of Pyata village has been arrested in connection with the murder of a commercial motorcycle rider along Pyata-Maitumbi by-pass.
Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command said, “On 02/01/2025 at about 2pm, a distress call was received that a lifeless body was found along Pyata-Maitumbi Bye-Pass area of Bosso.
“Police operatives of Bosso Div. moved to the scene where a body identified as one Abdulrahman Isah, 20yrs, of Pyata village, a motorcyclist was found in his pool of blood and his motorcycle was taken away by the suspected killer.
“The corpse was evacuated to a nearby hospital morgue.
“In the course of investigation, one Abubakar Sadiq of the same village was arrested in connection with the incident and he confessed to the crime that he boarded the motorcycle from Berger junction Bosso to Maitumbi.
“He narrated further that while on their way, he deceived the rider and diverted him to follow a lonely path along Pyata-Maitumbi Bye-Pass road where he used a stone to hit the rider on the head.”
Abiodun explained that after the rider became unconscious, the suspect took away the motorcycle to Beji market, where it was handed to one Ibrahim Garba, 35, of Kuyi village, Bosso who sold it at the rate of N310,000 to one Bala Usman of Wushishi.
He said the receiver was arrested and the sum of N300,000 was recovered.
Abiodun said the police in the state also arrested one Aminu Amale, 45, of Shadadi village, Mariga LGA over an alleged plan to kidnap a farmer in Kakuza village in the same LG.
The police spokesman said “On 27/12/2024 at about 4pm, based on a complaint received from Kakuza village, via Kumbashi, Mariga LGA, that on 24/12/2025 at about 8am, a farmer got to his farm and found a written letter with a phone number attached to the guinea corn harvested, requesting the farmer to pay a sum of N9.5 million before he would be allowed to evacuate the guinea or else be kidnapped.
“With the aid of technical intelligence, one Aminu Amale of Shadadi village, Mariga LGA, was arrested in connection to the letter and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime.
“He claimed that he needed money to sort some personal challenges. The suspect has been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution”.
