A 17-year-old girl in Enugu police custody has allegedly been sexually assaulted by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
The ASP is serving at the Awgu Police Division of the state command.
Ahmed Ammani, the state Commissioner of Police, has ordered the investigation of the ASP.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.
Ammani ordered the state Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation and bring up actionable findings on the allegation.
According to him, though the alleged sexual assault took place on March 18, 2022, the detainee’s family brought it up recently.
Ndukwe said the commissioner directed that the investigation be concluded within the shortest possible time.
“He assured that the case would be given the deserved attention and that the ASP or any other person or persons found culpable, would be appropriately sanctioned,” the statement added.
