A Federal High Court in Ibadan, yesterday sentenced 19-year-old Ibrahim Ojo to one year imprisonment for drug trafficking.
Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek convicted and sentenced Ojo after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of unlawful dealing in illicit drug.
“Due to the dangerous effect of smoking Indian hemp in the society and to serve as a deterrent to others, Ojo is sentenced to one year imprisonment.
“The sentence begins from the date of his arrest.
“All the exhibits found on him are forfeited to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),” the judge said.
Mr Raphael Himinkaiye, counsel to NDLEA, Oyo State Command had informed the court that the convict committed the crime on June 7, in Ibadan.
He added that the teenager was apprehended with a sack of 1.1 kg of cannabis sativa, popularly known as Indian hemp.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004. (NAN)
