Suspected cultists have killed a 19-year-old man at Coca-Cola road in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The teenage, whose identity had not been officially confirmed at the time of this report, was reportedly shot in the head and died on the spot.

Two others were left injured during the invasion that occurred around 9:05pm at the weekend when fans were engrossed in a live football match.

Witnesses described a sudden eruption of gunfire that sent spectators scrambling for safety.

One of them, who confided in our correspondent because of safety reasons, recounted the horrifying ordeal.

“They just came out of nowhere and started shooting. People ran in different directions. It was like a war zone.”

“The teenager was lying in a pool of blood. It was a horrifying sight,” the source added, describing the gruesome aftermath.

Two others were injured by stray bullets and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

Another witness said he “heard a gunshot and had to turn back immediately. My wife’s shop is located at that place. A young man was hit by a stray bullet and was lying in a pool of blood.”

The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Sunday during a phone interview.

She said, “The police are aware of the attack and have commenced investigation on the case. But no arrest has been made yet.”
