The Anambra State Police command, yesterday, paraded a teenager, Chimezie Aronu, 18, as one of the three suspects arrested for robbing and shooting one Ifeanyi Nwanga at Ifitedunu.
The suspect, according to the police, confessed to accidentally shooting the deceased, saying that he did not know the victim died from the gunshot. Others arrested were Chibuike Omankwu and Uchenna Obiora who also allegedly confessed to the crime and led the officers to where they hid the gun they used to shot the victim.
Recovered items are a cut to size single barrel gun and one cartridge.
Aronu, in his confessional statement reportedly said he dropped out of Senior Secondary II (SS2) when his parents could no longer pay for his education.
According to him, he learnt how to be a barber, but joined a gang that robbed people at lonely places. He said they had robbed a lady of her itel phone and were trying to run away on a bike when an okada operator blocked them.
He said he mistakenly pulled the trigger and shot the man. He said he and his gang were caught by people of Umunnachi community and handed over to the police.
The trio were among the 13 suspects, aged between 18 and 24, paraded by the Anambra State Police command at the police headquarters for various crimes.
Another robbery suspect, Obum Rapuruchukwu, in his confession before newsmen said he belonged to a gang of four that specialized in robbing cars.
Other members of his gang who were also caught were Emeka Iheanacho, Nwobodo Kosichukwu and Ekene Edeh.
They were arrested by police operatives attached to the special anti-robbery squad for robbing one Chizoba of Nsugbe of his Acura jeep.
