The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three teenagers said to specialise in stealing car engines at mechanics workshops.

The command also said it is on the trail of two other suspects who are part of the syndicate that have raided several mechanics workshops in some parts of Ilorin metropolis.

According to the NSCDC spokesman in the state, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, three of the gang members – Dauda Wasiu, 17, Qowiyu Kareem, 18 and Daud Bello, 18 – are already in their custody while a manhunt has commenced for the other two still at large.

He gave the names of the two still at large as Dada Durojaye and Jamiu Fawaz. 

“Investigation revealed that they specialize in raiding mechanics shops and garages to steal vehicles engines and other parts when the mechanics have left their places of work,” he said.

Afolabi added that one Yusuf Muritala who lodged a complaint about a missing vehicle engine and other parts from their workshop prompted the arrest at their hideouts at Offa garage.
