The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has predicted 25per cent telecoms sector’s contributions to the Gross Domestic Products (GDP).
The acting Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta at the weekend noted that there is hardly any aspect of life that is not currently ruled by telecoms.
Danbatta who spoke during the NCC’s Special Day at the Lagos International Trade Fair organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on “value addition in the non-oil economy” as the title of this year’s fair was represented by the Director, Licensing and Authorisation, Ms. Funlola Akiode.
The EVC noted that nationwide broadband connectivity with the implementation of the National Broadband Plan will make 25per cent contributions to GDP target a reality.
According to him, NCC will soon commence licensing process for broadband service providers alongside infrastructure companies for North-East, North-West, South-East, South-South and South-West.
He said with over 90million people accessing the internet and still counting, investments in telecommunications will continue to be relevant compared to oil.
