The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old tenant, Bello Abubakar, in connection with the alleged killing of his landlady, Maryam Hassan, in Gombe metropolis.
Police said the incident occurred on February 3, 2026, at about 6am at Kundulun Quarters, Gombe.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, someone reported that a woman identified as Maryam Hassan, aged 38, was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood with a severe head injury in front of her residence.
He said detectives from Gombe Division immediately visited the scene and evacuated the victim to the hospital, where she was certified dead by medical personnel.
“Preliminary investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, Bello Abubakar, a tenant in the deceased’s residence, for questioning,” the statement said.
The police added that during the investigation, several exhibits were recovered from the suspect, including one pestle, one stool, one bucket, a shirt suspected to be stained with blood, and a Redmi 15C mobile phone belonging to the deceased, which was found in his possession.
DSP Abdullahi stated that the suspect later confessed to the crime and that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
He assured the public that justice would be diligently pursued.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance security across the state.
