Tension in Ekiti as bandits shoot monarch

A traditional ruler in Ekiti State, the Elewu of Ewu Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Oba Adetutu Ajayi, has narrowly escaped death, as suspected gunmen shot at his car Friday evening.

The monarch, who escaped death but sustained gunshot injuries, is now admitted in one of the hospitals in Ekiti State.

According to information gathered in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, the Ekiti Oba was travelling in his official car to the neighbouring Ayetoro Ekiti, in Ido/Osi Local Government Area when the gunmen struck.

The source said the monarch sustained gunshot injuries in his legs, arms and stomach.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, ASP Sunday Abutu, regretted that the incident happened in spite of the rigorous joint patrol, raiding of black spots and combing of forests by his men to dislodge criminals.
