There was palpable tension in Osun State on Tuesday as improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in Ile-Ife, Osun state and caused confusion as residents scamper for safety.
Daily Trust leant that two explosive devices were planted in two strategic locations at Agbedegbede area of the ancient town. Residents of the area were shocked when one of the two explosive devices exploded and there was apprehension as to when the second one would explode.
No life was lost to the explosion but property worth millions of naira were destroyed by the explosion.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Maishanu, according to sources had visited the scene of the blast.

Although the Police were yet to make any official statement on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state Police command, Mrs Folashade Odoro said the Police Commissioner would formally react to the incident after his inspection to the scene.

The bomb was said to have affected some houses in the area, damaging the roof of the building. A reliable source hinted that the explosive devices could have been planted at night by some disgruntled elements.

It was also learnt that explosive devices were detected by the anti-bomb unit of the State Police Command, as members of the unit combed the area.

The state commissioner of Police, Mr Maishanu who confirmed the incident but he said the explosion was a minor one and not a major explosion.

He said the state Police command would reinforce security in all parts of the state, assuring all residents of the state to continue with the activities peacefully.

Meanwhile, Osun state government has condemned explosion that rocked Ile-Ife, describing it as unfortunate.
The state commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere urged the people of the state to remain calm, saying that the government would not allow any threat to the peace of the state.
