The Shomolu, Bariga, Abule-Ijesa, Abule-Oja and Onipanu areas of Lagos are on edge as words spread that members of the deadly Eye cult group yesterday concluded plans to organise a candlelight procession for their deceased leader, Ibrahim Balogun, widely known as Small Jaypron.

Jaypron and another cult leader, Solomon, were killed penultimate Wednesday when Eiye and Aye cultists engaged one another in a shooting and macheting free-for-all at the Obanikoro area of the Lagos metropolis.

The Lagos police command has, however, advised residents of the areas to go about their duties without any fear. In a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chike Oti, the police said its attention had been drawn to “the news making the rounds on the internet that the funeral activities of some cult members may become violent.”

The Command stated that there was no cause for alarm in any part of the state. Oti said, “The entire state is safe and secure and is being policed by dedicated men and women on foot, motorcycle, in vehicle, air, and  boat patrols every day.

“The Command urges the public, particularly those in the aforementioned areas, to regard the news about the impending mayhem as baseless, unfounded and a handiwork of jobless alarmists.”

Oti disclosed that the corpses of the deceased cult leaders were still in the mortuary as the police had not released them to their families.

“So it is untrue to say that their burial will hold today. Criminals are hereby warned to stay off the state as the Command will swiftly round them up even before they have the chance to strike in any part of the state,” he added.
