The Federal Government will this month launch a N30 billion support fund for victims of terrorist attacks in the country.

A presidency source disclosed this to State House journalists today, saying it was a resolution of the Council of State meeting on Tuesday.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the Fund would be floated in partnership with the private sector..

He said while the Federal Government would be contributing N10 billion to the Fund, state governments would be jointly contributing N10 billion.

He described the Fund as part of President Goodluck Jonathan’s efforts towards cushioning the effects of terrorist activities on Nigerians.

According to the source, General Theophilus Danjuma, will chair the Fund, while Mr Fola Adeola will be deputy chairman.

“The Victims Support Fund will be officially launched before the end of this month. A date has not been fixed yet. The fund will be used to support victims of Boko Haram and other acts of terror across the country, like in Southern Kaduna and the rest. It’ll be used to rebuild schools, assist widows, provide support for orphans, among others, in order to show that government cares.

“This will be done in collaboration with the private sector and other concerned stakeholders. The target is to raise N30bn. The Federal Government will contribute about N10bn, while state governments are also expected to put in another N10bn. We’re approaching Gen. T.Y Danjuma to be chairman of the fund while Mr. Fola Adeola will be the deputy chairman”, the source said.
