He harped on the necessity of the OIC to promote a better and deeper understanding of Islam by seeking to remove distrust and stereotypes about the religion.
Wali gave this advice while addressing participants at the 41st Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Wednesday.
He emphasised that the terrorist group Boko Haram is demonic and anti-Islamic as shown through its indiscriminate, callous and ungodly acts of violence unleashed on the Nigerian citizenry.
“Despite the rich history of Islam as a religion founded on the quest for knowledge and education, especially the epoch-making advances in science and technology recorded by the Islamic civilization, these misguided elements strangely profess that their actions are grounded in the teachings of the noble religion. They must be roundly condemned and isolated by the Muslim Ummah and all peace-loving peoples of the world,” he said.
He added that it is necessary for the OIC to work harder to delist its member states from the ignoble map of flashpoints of conflict and hotbeds of terror in the world, and continue to build bridges of understanding, cooperation and partnership across the globe.
“I urge member states of this organization to join hands with Nigeria in tackling effectively, the growing menace of Boko Haram and other similar terrorist activities in various parts of the world that have given the religion of Islamic undeserved name and image,” Wali said.
