Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, Shekarau expressed optimism that if tertiary institutions are provided with better facilities, good learning and teaching environment, it would stamp out cultism, examination malpractices among other vices on the campus.
He said the federal government has so far made available facilities to both federal and state tertiary institutions across the federation, adding that “an intervention of N1.5 billion has been allotted to Imo State University. In five years, the federal government has spent up to N10 billion on Imo State University.
He added that other areas where the government is intervening include staff development, construction of ICT centres and lecture halls among others, assuring that government will continue to provide necessary teaching and learning facilities to tertiary institutions.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, said that from the federal government’s intervention, the institution has built new faculty of law, three-storey building, business and a faculty of education.
