Speaking at the opening of the committee’s meeting in Abuja, Bamiro said the office can liaise with the monitoring and evaluations unit of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) for effective management of funds received by individuals or institutions.
According to him, such an office would enhance transparency in the operations of the National Research Fund, noting that the grants are aimed at promoting research work and capacity building of lectures in tertiary institutions.
He said, the committee was reviewing over 150 proposals sent to it from across the nation’s tertiary institutions with a view to approving those found worthy of funding, adding that the fund was open to “every tertiary institution to access in the following research categories, humanities/social sciences, science, technology and innovation and other areas relevant to national development.’’
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board, Dr Musa Babayo, urged stakeholders, especially the academics to collaborate with government in its efforts to re-positioning the education sector.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Professor Suleiman Bogoro, said that the National Research Fund intervention was geared towards resuscitating the dying culture of research among lecturers.
It could be recalled that the Federal Government had, last year, disbursed the sum of N266, 570,615.00 to 13 beneficiaries of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund.
