The truth is always bitter as the saying goes. Let me make it very clear that the North East youths are not in any way against the inclusion of Kano and Plateau States in the bill for the establishment of North East Development Commission.
Our friends from other zones have been trying to explain the fact that Niger Delta Development Commission comprise of states outside the Niger Delta, Ondo state, Cross Rivers state but they failed to understand that there is a subtle differences between the Niger Delta Development Commission and North East Development Commission. The rationale behind the establishment of the Niger Delta Commission is not in coherence with the principle of the creation of North East Development Commission.
The North East youths acknowledged the fact that we received solidarity from our neighboring states and outside world during the menace of Boko Haram insurgency.
We have for a very long term stood for the establishment of NEDC and now at the tail end, somebody somewhere will request for the inclusion of two states from North West and North Central. We shall not deter on our demands, but if Kano and Plateau states will be involved, then the name of the commission should be changed to something else because North East is North East, while North West and North Central are geographical zones on their own.
We accept the inclusion of Kano and Plateau only if the name of the commission will be changed. This is not about sentiment, we are not mawkish or cynical about this issue but we believe in principles and fairness.
We believe and have confidence that Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, Senator Ali Wakili, Senator Baba Bashir Garbai, Senator Abubakar Kyari, Senator Danjuma Goje, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Senator Abdul Aziz Nyako and other vibrant senators will not allow this conspiracy to happen.
