I can recall when a bill for the establishment of I believed everyone from the northeast was happy when a bill was first presented in November 2015, titled “Bill for North East Development Commission”. It was sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and I commended him for doing the right thing.
The bill seeks to charge the proposed commission with the responsibility to “receive and manage funds from allocation from the federation account and international donors for the settlement, rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, houses, and business premises of victims of insurgency; and for other matters connected therewith”.
With this background I am very confident that if these will be achieved the region will rebound back to where it was before in terms of social economic activities.
It is well known to every Nigerian that thousands of citizens had been killed, while over 2.2 million people were displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency which ravaged the region. With the support of Mr. President I have no doubt that the NEDC will be the best of any other commissions in Nigeria.
But my fear as well as every one’s fears is the state governors who are struggling to take part or even hijack the project, which I pray that President Buhari  will not listen to them.  Remember that these governors are some of the major problems we have in the country especially in providing and sustaining infrastructural development from 1999 to date.
