The senators sustained solidarity is seen in many quarters as the inability of the upper chamber to separate between a narrow pursuit of espirit de corps and the progressively diminished public image of the senate going forward.
Senate’s threat to the presidency on the security agency’s report that implicated the senate president and his deputy in the alleged forgery is an affront on our collective psyche.
Each time the senate pursues a venal escapism by appealing to public sentiment rather than taking a stand in asking its leadership to use the instrumentality of the law to establish their innocence in cases pending it sheds further weight in integrity quotient.
A senate prorogued on a purported forgery of senate’s standing rule cannot lend credence to the collective aspirations of Nigerians.
The global bureaucratic nuances are predicated on the tripod of Integrity, tested probity and transparency.
Nothing accentuates the global presupposition on propriety of public institutions and their agents than the statement issued the US Embassy on the discordant reaction of the leadership of the House of Representatives to the shameful outing of some of their members at their trip to the United States. The statement reads thus, “The US Mission took pains to confirm these allegations and identities of individuals with the employees of the hotel in Cleveland. The conduct described above left a very negative impression of Nigeria, casting a shadow on Nigeria’s National Assembly, the International Visitor Leadership Programme and to the American hosts’ impression of Nigeria as a whole”.
It seems Saraki, Dogara and their co-travellers don’t give a damn as to the impression being created of their unethical proclivities and the silhouette of depravity transmitted to international community about Nigeria.
