The changing face of Kogi State University

On enquiry, l was told that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Hassan Isah had mainly preoccupied himself with creating a good academic environment as well as generating revenue to complement government efforts towards running the university for which purpose he had already set up a cashew nut processing factory from where my host bought me some packs of the most delicious peanuts and bread l ever tasted. The well known medicinal value of the nuts as well as the quality of the product has boosted sales at the factory.

In a further bid to be self sustaining, the university authority has recently set up an Advancement office whose function will include reaching out to corporate organizations and individuals for contributions towards effectively running the institution.

Professor Hassan Isah and his team have raised academic standards at the relatively new institution. It has even overtaken some much more older ones in this regard. The steps taken by the authority to make the institution self-reliant are worthy of emulation by other establishments who would rather fold their arms and wait for government subvention while things degenerate.
