And if history is taken into consideration, the movie may toe the path of other AMBO flicks who carted home laurels in recent past.

The nominated categories include: Best film from Nigeria; AMAA achievement in editing; AMAA achievement in art direction; AMAA achievement in make-up and AMAA achievement in costume. Others are AMAA achievement in visual effect; Best original soundtrack; Most promising actor and AMAA achievement in cinematography.

Launched in 2005, AMBO consists of three main elements that run sequentially, beginning with an acting talent hunt reality TV show.

According to Ngozi Nkwoji, Amstel Malta Brand Manager, Amstel Malta Box Office has been making dreams come true since inception in 2005. AMBO movies have raised the bar in Nigerian movie production and this is evident in the accolades each movie has received. The movies are Sitanda (starring Azizat Sadiq), White Waters (starring OC Ukeje), Cindy’s Notes (starring Bhaira McWizu) and the latest, The Child (starring Wole Ojo).

“With 10 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) appearances at film festivals such as FESPACO, Hong Kong International Film Festival and Africa-Amsterdam Film Festival; and government recognitions,  White Waters was used by the Nigerian Ministry of Information to show Nigeria in a good light at the Cameroon Film Festival,” Nkwoji said.
