This is the scenario that played out during the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State.
The outcome of the APC governorship congress in Jigawa State is instructive in a way. Look at the horse- trading, the consultations, the insistence of the last two contenders. Those who bought forms of intention and nomination went ahead to submit same. They were successfully screened. But out of the bunch, none showed up at the real starting point of the general elections billed for February next year.
Leadership is Godly, so if the appropriate mode is not adopted and followed in entrenching it, the outcome is never very pleasing. An interesting scenario played out in Jigawa State, involving Barrister Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, the former deputy governor of the state.
Among the APC governorship aspirants he was nowhere to be found. But he watched the runners until they got exhausted and willingly handed over the baton to him. When the consensus process got to a head and it seemed there was no way out, they agreed to make him their torch bearer. They were unanimous in their decision. Like General Muhammadu Buhari, there was no money to be given. The attractions were honour, integrity, enviable family background, acceptance and love by the generality of the people.
Hadejia has age on his side; therefore the APC has not made a mistake in picking him as a candidate.  The former deputy governor has the character and qualification to raise the development bar of the state. He is on a familiar terrain, having come from the background of those who fought for the creation of the state.  
History beckons on the former deputy governor, more so that Hadejia, his home town missed being capital when Jigawa was created. His becoming governor is that history.
If therefore, behoves that Hadejia with the biggest block vote in the state cannot fail their own.
Since 1999 when the country returned to democracy, it is on record that Jigawa State has suffered from misplacement of policies and programmes. And this has worked against the state and its people for several years.  
It is expected that, as a governor on the platform of the APC, Barrister Hadejia will turn the fortunes of Jigawa State around for good. Available record shows that APC governors always have the tendency to render people-oriented services.  An unbiased look at Lagos, Kano, Rivers and Edo readily confirms this position. These states have experienced positive transformation. With his background as a lawyer and his experience in the banking sector, it is quite believable that he is a perfect peg in a perfect hole.  
Ibrahim Hadejia has a name to protect, having come from the famous Hassan Hadejia family, from the Hadejia Emirate, the biggest in Jigawa State. The late patriarch of the family, Shettiman Hadejia was an elder statesman who accorded a red-carpet reception to whoever came his way. His philanthropy was also legendary. Again, one golden lining of the late Shettima was his unmatchable commitment to Islam: stars in this sphere are his custodian of the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna and the clothing of the dead in Hadejia.
As we await the 2015 general elections, this is a call for the people of Jigawa State to be wise in casting their votes. A vote for the wrong governorship candidate will take the state backward. We must move forward.
