This problem is caused by many factors and for so many reasons. But in most cases, it is the result of the work of certain people pursuing a personal vendetta against a student. Sometimes, lecturers do so as a punitive measure against those who did not do their class assignments or did not buy textbooks or handouts.
In some cases, the lecturers openly tell their students that anyone who fails to buy their textbooks or submit their assignments as at when due, should not expect to see any result after examinations.
Regrettably, other popular causes of the problem are sexual harassment and cultism.
While female students fall victims of missing scripts in order to be sexually harassed, their male counterparts fall victims of the problem for other reasons including cultism.
Cultists on campus can go to any length to deal with any students that refuses to join their group, including open threat and physical attack. They even go the extent of finding a perceived enemies’ examination script, and make sure that their results are not released to them.
However, some scripts get missing due to the negligence on the part of the lecturers, especially those handling large number of students and sometimes it occurs as a result of genuine errors of lecturers.
