The journey so far: Geidam goes, Geidam cometh

Once a favored aphorism says “when the elderly ones in a house travel, the younger ones quickly grow in experience”. Taking a quick look at the past, one can certainly say that the aggressive and progressive development of our dear state took its roots in 2007 with the emergence of Messrs.  late Governor Mamman Bello Ali (Mal) and Alh Ibrahim Geidam (BB) as the Governor and deputy governor of Yobe state respectively. The duo together initiated, promoted, and executed various developmental projects across the entire state while still renovating and face-lifting the existing ones to modern standards.

Worthy to mention then was the complete overhaul of the fertilizer blending plant in Gujba local government, rejig of the education sector including the construction of Nigerian Turkish College Mamudo. In short the hallmark of Mal/BB government was prudence, productivity, sincerity and progress.

As fate have it, Geidam was sworn in 27/01/2009 after the demise of Late Governor Mamman Bello Ali (may Allah have mercy on his soul). From then Geidam made it his priority to finish all the good work started by his predecessor while still initiating new projects to suit the ever-evolving needs of Yobeans.

The coming of Geidam in 2011 was marked by excellence due to the experience he garnered in government. He then set the stone rolling by his strong zeal to uplift Yobe out of the bondage of poverty and backwardness.

Judging by all standards Governor Geidam’s 8years work was the envy of all government. Even though it isn’t a smooth ride, the insurgency does not constrain him from performing. His projects are numerous but only to mention few. We have the revitalization of the educational sector especially the upgrade of Yobe state University in Damaturu, the construction of a world class hospital in Damaturu which was equipped with the state of the arts equipment, numerous township roads, soft loans and incentives to rural farmers and many more. With all these, one can easily make a perfect guess that Governor Geidam will forever be remembered by Yobeans as iconic and sincere leader that have left an excellent legacy.

Now that 2019 has come and the cock crows which signals a new dawn in the history of Yobe. Judging by his past records, Alh Mai Mala Buni (MBM) is another Geidam in disguise and as the saying goes “the sheep with a strong master sleeps with his tail outside the house”.

At present without any equivocation, he is seen as the only formidable candidate that when elected he would continue the good work of Geidam and change Yobe to a state of utopia. MBM is an embodiment of honesty, creativity, discipline and excellence. Being a youth himself, MBM shows more tendency of youth inclusion in his government; this has become evident in his most recent declaration. In this vein, we expect from him more employment to our teeming youths, empowerments to ours vulnerable, more state sponsored professional scholarships to cover postgraduate studies (masters and PhD) and lots more. In this regard I and my likes are confident with MBM’s candidature.

Lastly I end this piece with a quote from David De Notaris ”as you know life, is an echo, we get what we give”
