The City Son by Samrat Upadhyay

Chinelo Okparanta said her last good read is ‘The City Son’ by Samrat Upadhyay. “I’m interested in human psychology and why it is that people do what they do-why, for instance, they take advantage of, or abuse or hurt one another in such psychologically distressing ways. I’m almost obsessed with understanding this sort of thing, and especially with how people who do such things can rationalize it to themselves. This book gives me new things to think about on this topic.”

Chinelo Okparanta is a Nigerian-American writer. Born and raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, she emigrated to the United States with her family at the age of 10. She is author of a novel ‘Under the Udala Trees’.
