Jighere Wellington is the current Scrabble World Champion, and the 34-year-old word-master revealed the last good book he read to be ‘Destiny’, by T.D Jakes. He said it appealed to him immensely because of the way the writer tackles issues. “When you read most books by preachers, you see a lot of reference to the bible,” he said.
But Wellington was quick to add that as a Christian, he doesn’t have any problem with referencing the bible, “but when you see a preacher who can discuss issues with minimal reference to the bible, it shows a lot of depth, from a secular point of view, backed up by scriptural understanding.”
Wellington said that approach to writing fascinates him. “There is this common sense approach he uses on certain troublesome issues, and he has a way of relating to me seemingly personally,” he said.
The Scrabble champ also professed a lot of respect for the preacher-writer. “Immediately I saw the book written by him, I picked it and didn’t regret reading it,” he said.
