The logic of Democreeks

There is no question about it; there is the temptation for other citizens to call for the arrest of Mujahid Asari Dokubo over his recent toxic statement threatening peace if Jonathan is not returned as president in the 2015 election. According to Alhaji Asari Dokubo, Ankio Briggs (the half-Ijaw Niger Delta activist), Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Kingsley Kuku and their godfather, Chief Edwin Clark, Jonathan must contest and win the 2015 presidential election.

First of all, Dokubo and his kinsmen’s arguments do not take into consideration our current political realities. Dokubo fails to realise that we now elect our leaders and there is no room for militants or ex-militants to force anybody on the country other than through their votes and so the question of whether Jonathan remains beyond 2015, or whether there will be no peace if he is voted out is a decision for Nigerians to make and not Dokubo and his ilk.
Secondly, the population distribution of Nigeria indicates that there are no more than six million Ijaws, how then can they hope to choose a president for Nigeria? If Dokubo disputes the population figures for other nationalities or ethnic groups in the country, he is free to share his own numbers with us. In the meantime, the data given by the National Population Commission (NPC) remain the reference point.
Thirdly, Dokubo should know that if he wants to re-ignite the bloodbath in Niger Delta, many of those young men and women are not available to be armed, drugged and unleashed on their compatriots simply because some war loads want to negotiate multi-billion Naira contracts for themselves.
If he is a true Muslim, Dokubo should know that the Qur’an forbids violence or the incitement of it against other people. Surely, he is aware of the verse where Allah says he made us into different tribes and nationalities so that we could understand and appreciate those differences and live in peace with one another, and that if he had wished, he would have created us as one single creed. Therefore, Alhaji Dokubo needs to be reminded that threatening other people with violence is sinful in Islam.
Looking at Dokubo’s antecedents and contradictory remarks about Jonathan, it is very doubtful if he would have tolerated Jonathan as the commander – in – chief of the militants in the creeks. Dokubo would have challenged Jonathan for the leadership of the mob in the creeks. Is the tribal blood thicker than the religious bond? Just two months ago, Dokubo was saying that Jonathan was not electable, so what has now changed? Why has Dokubo made the continuation of Jonathan presidency beyond 2015 his number one priority?
Dokubo has dropped his trenchant call for a sovereign national conference. If the conference were to hold, Dokubo would prefer that it is attended based on ethnic representation; still the question is where will the six million Ijaws get the number to face nearly 60 million Hausa-Fulani? How many representatives would the Ijaw send to the sovereign national conference to negotiate with the Hausa-Fulani? Or will the two ethnic groups send equal number of negotiators?
Dokubo’s threat of violence against Nigeria is taken more seriously than that of Muhammadu Buhari or Lawal Kaita because before now he had taken up arms against Nigeria. I am not disputing it, but I have not read where Buhari and Lawal Kaita said if Jonathan won the presidency, they would make Nigeria ungovernable for him. Obviously, Buhari and Kaita have no armed militia to call to action and so their rhetoric if it ever bordered on what Dokubo claimed, was something borne out of frustration with Jonathan’s political desperation and demonstrated administrative incompetence.
Dokubo enjoys media publicity and engages in empty rhetoric, claiming that if he is arrested, that would be the end of Nigeria. There has been no record of a country ceasing to exist simply because an individual is arrested. Even if Bayelsa or the entire South-South breaks away, that will not be the end of Nigeria. Furthermore, if the Ibibios, Itsekiris, Ikwerres, Ishans, etc, will not be slaves in Nigeria, I cannot see how they will agree to be slaves to Dokubo’s Ijaws
If Dokubo’s warped words are unpalatable, after all he is no more than a school dropout; those of Kuku, the so called presidential adviser on amnesty are even more scandalous. In a scare-mongering and self-serving tactic, Kuku recently went to the United States of America to say that if Jonathan is not returned as president in 2015, there will be no peace in the Niger Delta. Kuku should know better than to go to a foreign country and intimidate them into supporting the candidacy of Jonathan who has not even decided to seek re-election in 2015. But then Mr. Kuku is somebody who controls billions of Naira budgeted for amnesty for the Niger Delta boys. This large amount of money under his charge can make anyone who lacks honour and principle to fawn. In 2015, Nigerians will be free to elect whoever they want to lead them and will not leave this decision in the hands of thugs.
The tantrums of their Godfather, Chief Edwin Clark, are also flabbergasting because he is 86 and was a former Minister of Information under the Gowon administration. At the so called 3rd general conference of the Southern Nigeria People’s Assembly, Clark was quoted saying: “There is an incumbent who has not done a second term, so Northerners have no place. It’s not yet the turn of a Northerner. They have the right to contest as Nigerians, yes in other (political) parties”. Dieprieye Alamieyeseigha, the recently pardoned criminal on his part said irrespective of the outcome of the election in two years “President Jonathan will remain the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015” because “Aso Rock is not vacant”. The pardon is already working and the falcon has begun to answer the call of the falconer. This then explains why Jonathan is trying to seize every political space in Nigeria, hoisting old puppets as leaders of the PDP, creating a faction of the Governor’s Forum and attempting to seize funds belonging to Adamawa, Bornu and Yobe States under his emergency.
Obviously, our Democreeks; sons and father, are enamoured with what they decree in the creeks; and so in their paralysed reasoning, the choice of bigoted spokespersons of a tiny minority of six million will override the votes of the rest of the country.  How legless is the logic of mercenary Democreeks!
