Since elections for 2015 got afoot, the street profile of Attahiru Jega has been rising, far beyond just that of the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission.
It hit stratospheric heights on Tuesday after former Niger Delta minister Godsday Orubebe disrupted announcement of results from Saturday’s presidential polls and accused the commission of bias.
Jega’s handling of the situation was akin to defusing a time bomb—and earned him immense respect, and a listing of his name as a verb, a noun, adjective, and adverb.
So what’s the dictionary entry for ‘Jega’?

“People say Nigerians are the winner of this elections. I say no, Jega is the winner of this elections. It was the way he managed the whole thing, from insisting on using card readers to the way he handled Orubebe’s outburst,” said Joshua.
“He just wanted to provoke Jega, make him say, ‘I’m not doing this anymore,” added his colleague.
“Cool” and “Too much” are words that have been used to describe him.
By evening of the same day, he’d earned respect of countless Nigerians and become a reference point. Social media posts showed women holding up Jega as a standard to measure their husbands against.
“Why can’t you be calm and collected like Jega? Keep shouting like Orubebe,” they would tell their husbands. By Wednesday morning, colleagues could snap, “Don’t behave like Orubebe.”
“Never mind. She’s jega-lising you,” came the response.

Orubebe demanded a microphone and took up position in front of the hall, while live news cameras from across the country were trained on him.
I know sha that Orubebe is not on social media but if that man knows how much he has caused Jega’s CGPA to rise astronomically eh…he wouldn’t have done that dance in this market.

I am already missing this great woman who stood by the president despite her shortcomings she wasn’t intimidated and didn’t pretend to be sophisticated …..so real and raw….MAMA PEACE
