The recent viral video alleging that fuel sold at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations burns faster than that produced by the Dangote Refinery and sold through MRS outlets is an outright falsehood. This baseless claim is not only misleading but also completely devoid of scientific or empirical backing. It is yet another example of the sustained blackmail against the NNPC by those whose sole objective is to monopolize the petroleum sector for their selfish interests.

This false narrative is a desperate attempt by economic saboteurs to misinform the public and tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the NNPCL. The timing and intent behind this misinformation are clear: it is part of a calculated effort to discredit the remarkable progress being recorded under the leadership of Mr. Mele Kyari. Over the past few months, these usual suspects have orchestrated a coordinated media onslaught against the NNPC and its leadership, driven by their desperation to retain monopolistic control over the market and keep petroleum products beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians.

It is important to set the record straight. The Kyari-led NNPC management has demonstrated an unprecedented level of transparency in the oil and gas sector. For the first time in the company’s history, Nigerians are privy to how much profit the NNPC is making and how much is being spent each month. Furthermore, under Kyari’s leadership, the NNPC has launched an aggressive crackdown on unpatriotic elements operating illegal refineries, regularly publishing statistics on those uncovered and dismantled. Beyond enforcement, the NNPC management has continuously provided timely solutions to artificial fuel scarcities often caused by independent marketers.

One of the most commendable achievements of the current NNPC administration is the ongoing revamp of Nigeria’s four refineries, a critical step towards ensuring domestic energy security and positioning Nigeria as a future exporter of refined crude oil. These efforts have rattled certain interest groups that have historically benefited from inefficiencies in the sector, prompting their relentless attacks against the company and its leadership.

In contrast to the misinformation being peddled, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has categorically confirmed that NNPC’s Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, meets the highest industry standards. This professional endorsement further exposes the viral video as a malicious fabrication intended to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.

As the NNPC continues to make strides in ensuring energy security and driving national economic growth, Nigerians must remain vigilant against attempts to derail this progress. The ultimate goal of these detractors is to frustrate the advancements being witnessed under the pragmatic leadership of Mr. Mele Kyari. However, their tactics will not succeed if Nigerians refuse to fall for their deception.

It is therefore hoped, that all well-meaning citizens will reject such baseless propaganda and support every initiative that promotes transparency, growth, and prosperity in the petroleum sector. The positive transformation being witnessed in Nigeria’s energy landscape must not be sacrificed on the altar of selfish interests. Let us stand firm in safeguarding the progress that ensures a better future for our nation.
