Bangle introduction of the 7 series in about 2001 stirred a lot of controversies over its design. By the time it had been launched, it was clear many were not quite ready for the design concept.
Then came the outgoing 5 series which was forgiven for its practicality and every other thing. Then came the outgoing 6 series which didn’t change anything from the term Bangle’s Butt. In fact, it was anything but beautiful. Today with the release of the 7 series and 5 series and the up coming 6 series, BMW has obviously learnt its lessons about being unpopular.
The man behind BMWs Automotive Design is Adrian van Hooydonk, who has also been part of the previous concepts until Bangles retirement.
Following Gavin D’Souza of Midweek Motoring he describes “the bonnet is long; the glasshouse swoops back neatly and tapers to a narrow, taut rear end – no Bangle Butt here. The nose harks back to the 635CSi from 1976 and actually leans forward for a more aggressive look. Marketing spin or not, in silver, it does look like a shark in profile”
The new car shares most of its components with the new 5-Series. The whole body has been redesigned. Gone is the bulbous front as is the boot-lid which looked as if it was stuck on just after the designer had finished.
We could speculate on chassis and powertrain details, none of which have been officially revealed yet, but since this car will be based on the 5-Series, it’s safe to assume it will just carry things over from there.
The exterior is now classical to what a coupe should look like though with thicker belt  line making it look muscular but not out of proportion like its predecessor.
The interior is now more driver-focused, wrapping the centre console around and towards the driver.
We hope to see Coscharis Motors bring it in soon and believe this time it will be a crowd puller just like the late 70s.
