The visit ended in another serious blunder that if care is not taken would further endanger the peace of the country and the seeming order that was at hand in most parts of the volatile areas.
In the first place, there was no need for President Jonathan to visit the North East in view of the fact that his comprehension of the insurgence and that of the government he badly runs are completely off the track, primarily due to weak political brinkmanship of Dr Jonathan.
Apart from the insults that he gave to the leaders of the North East, the President made very inflammatory statements that in the view of this piece have been responsible for the seeming resumption of hostilities not just in Borno and Yobe but the recent horror that saw the brutal murder of many innocent citizens of Nigeria.
I don’t know this negative bravery which President Jonathan and his very inexperienced cabal are trying to exhibit in the midst of sorrow, tears and blood. I don’t know and can’t imagine that a doctor of philosophy could be so shallow in thoughts and simple cognitive imagination as this president that we are confronted with.
Is it right to argue that the conspiracy theory people have talked about on the insurrection either meeting the desires of government or are even carried out by them coming to pass? How would anybody describe attacks on lives and property in several parts of Nigeria as unreal as they are conducted by ghosts?
Does it matter to a sensible set of people even out of government that innocent lives are lost on a minute-by-minute basis? What is this bravado that is outside the lexicon of modern power and humanity? I think the greatest threat that the nation is faced with today is in the caliber of people that provide leadership in the presidential villa.
Could it be that truly, the government enjoys this mayhem in the land? Why is the president incapable of protecting our lives? Why is he incapable of identifying those he called ghosts and are making us sleepless? Who says they cannot be identified and brought to discussion? Is it not enough reason to show that the military campaign has not been working? Do we all have to die or do those in authority require that the bombs and bullets have to reach those near them before they can understand the nature of desperation, pain and anger that Nigerians are in?
Things can’t just add up, Nigeria does not seem to be working. There is no doubt to the fact that the crisis that afflicts the country today is closely related to the nature of political leadership that is in place. The fear is not in the fact that the crises have become protracted but that those who take decision on our behalf do not seem to be on the same page with the pains and anger of the citizens.
No doubt, different Nigerians view the crisis of Boko Haram from different perspectives across the broad spectrum of the society but there are certain facts that are incontrovertible. Lives are lost in the country on a daily basis. Those who are responsible are said to be faceless by the government of the day. I do not know what that means because it is not the responsibility of the common man or those in the communities where such insurrections are happening to play the role of the state that we pay tax so that our lives and property are protected.
Why did Jonathan seek to be the president of Nigeria if he wasn’t ready to combine the assets and liabilities of governance? Are those areas where such restiveness occur outside of Nigeria?
I am certainly worried for this country and in a nutshell, when Ambassador Campbell in his book wrote that Dr Goodluck Jonathan may as well be the last president of a untied Nigeria, the government, its thinkers and supporters never hesitated in outright condemnation instead of reading in between the lines of that prophesy. Since the 2011 elections, what we have seen is terror and insurrection all over the place.
Again the official explanation as lazy as it has sounded time and again has been that some Northerners are fuelling the insurrection just because they don’t want and Ijaw, Southern and Christian to be the president. What a lazy and pedestrian explanation this is. A president that has emerged out of over 140 million from a group that is in the extreme minority is complaining that his failures are because he is frustrated. This is a shame and those who call the shots today and own the largest estate in the project must live up to the reality and face facts.
If this argument holds waters, then, we will insist that in 2015, the sanctity of the votes shall reign supreme and we will see how rigging and such myopic agitations would see the light of the day. Believe it or not, the president is weak and incapable of discharging his roles thus the reason why we are in trouble.
If the president and his government cannot negotiate with ghosts, they can pardon acclaimed and convicted criminals for the sake of politics but here we are unable to sleep peacefully in a nation that we pay tax and pay the salaries of those who hold political offices.
In conclusion, I wish to submit that there is a yawning gap between those upstairs and the rest of us. It is also clear that there is a serious dearth of efficient political and even moral rectitude to lead. In the midst of violence, bloodletting and agony, the president and his men are already in top gear of politics asking for another term when this is being badly managed. Present Jonathan’s theory of ghosts is the most unintelligent submission from a letter in recent times. May God see us through?
