At a time when global attention is fixed on sustainable energy, one Nigerian researcher has quietly become a bridge between science innovation and the young minds destined to carry it forward. Dr. Wunuken Carlos Solomon, a respected Power and Energy Systems Researcher, is earning recognition not only for his advancements in biofuel combustion and renewable energy systems but also for shaping a new wave of energy experts emerging from Nigerian postgraduate institutions.
Through his work, he provides active guidance and support for advanced research trainees at the Nigerian Defence Academy, where his modelling of renewable micro-grids, biodiesel-powered turbines, diesel engines, and biogas-based energy systems is influencing doctoral and master’s dissertations in energy engineering. Many students describe his research as “the blueprint” for their academic projects, particularly in areas linking clean energy to security and self-sustaining power systems.
“He does not just write papers,” said Professor S.U. Muhammad, who has supervised postgraduate theses using Dr. Solomon’s models. “He builds intellectual tools. What students are learning from him today will become tomorrow’s national energy solutions.”
Unlike many researchers who remain hidden in lab-focused routines, Dr. Solomon has created a culture of open collaboration, encouraging students to challenge conventional petroleum-based engineering assumptions and to propose system designs tailored to Nigerian conditions. Dr. Solomon believes Nigeria’s clean-energy transformation will be driven more by education than by infrastructure. “Technology does not lead a country — people do,” he told DAILY TRUST. “If we want world-class solutions, we must first build world-class thinkers.”
