Kawo constituency is the pivot of Kaduna central politics. Though many faces can be seen in the race to represent the constituency, very few can be said to be deserving of such position. One of the few who have shown capacity for the job is Aliyu Abdulhamid (aka Araka), a grassroot development activist on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). Abdulhamid has always championed transparency, accountability and people-oriented schemes, particularly for the people of his constituency. He is a philanthropist who uses his wealth to improve the lot of the masses by providing micro credit scheme to many women to boost their businesses. He has supported many youths to further their education, as well as secure jobs to many other youths in Unguwan Shanu, Unguwan Kanawa, Abakpa and Badarawa communities where he resides at one time or the other. Aliyu Araka has two registered NGOs: Eagle Partners which educates, enlightens and informs youths about HIV/AIDS; and the Civil Initiative for Youth Development. This latter group empowers the youths in various skills acquisition.
Dan-Baiwa, which is Aliyu’s other name, was given to him by the people because of his efforts at bringing positive change for the betterment of humanity, especially the underprivileged in the society. His headship of the two NGOs has seen him leading peace initiatives that facilitate peaceful co-existence among the diverse ethno-religious and political groups in the area.
As an individual, there is little he can do to benefit the people if he is not at the right place. For instance, his micro economic schemes, though far reaching, cannot go round the multitude of those in dire need of such succor. So also with his peace initiatives. With all these already well accepted by the people, it will be better if these schemes get the desired government machinery to leap-frog it to greater heights. I want to believe it is on this note that Aliyu wants to take a seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly
His dream is to build a very strong and credible leadership that is deeply rooted in grassroots politicking, equity and justice, which are the basic requirements for a stable and prosperous society. His election into office will safeguard development in the constituency as it will bring many dividends of democracy closer to the communities he is to represent.
