The 2009 Face of Africa finals, moving from South Africa to Nigeria will see the FOA winner cart away $50,000, plus the traditional one-year modelling contract.
Biola Alabi, Managing Director, M-Net Africa, announced this last weekend when the company hosted stakeholders in the modelling, fashion and entertainment industries.
She said M-Net Face of Africa was one of the best platforms for an African girl to realise her dream of becoming a supermodel.
The Face of Africa is in its tenth year and has produced great models like Oluchi Onweagba, the first winner of the show, Nombulelo Mazibuko, Benvida Mudenge, Ramatoulaye Dialo, Kaone Kario, Ventantia Otto, Kate Mensah, and a host of others.
Mrs Alabi also said this year’s competition will give chances to all girls between ages 18 and 24 across Africa to participate by registering online at www.mnetafrica/foa.co.uk.
“A prospective candidate will submit two photographs – one full length and the other portrait-sized. She should be at least 1.72m tall with hip measurement of 96cm and must not have an existing modelling contract.”
Joseph Hundah, Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, said he was particularly delighted that this year’s edition of FOA would hold in Nigeria.
Kate Mensah, winner of the 2008 Face of Africa, said she was happy to be in Nigeria. “I am happy that M-Net gave me the chance to realise my dream. I call on young women who nurse the dream of becoming supermodels to seize this opportunity.”
The 2009 Face of Africa finale will hold in Nigeria in February 2010. The search has metamorphosed from a four-part special into a dynamic 14-episode television series.
