I wish to refer to Mahmud Jega’s opinion in the special edition of the 100 Years of Nigeria (1914-2014) published in the Daily Trust (p36) of yesterday, January 1, 2014, wherein he claims to make a shortlist of the Ten Greatest Nigerians from 1914. Even though he deliberately offered a caveat to the effect that his definition of greatness of the men and women who made greatest impact on Nigeria’s politico-cultural and economic history could mean different to others, he posited that some of the ‘great’ adjectives he ascribed to some people can be substituted to ‘notoriety’.
