The tricky semester

All work without play they say makes Jack a dull boy. Every students of higher institution have two semesters to use in a session – first and second semester respectively. The first semester is always full of rigorous academic activities while the second semester is usually cluster with social activities.

Most institutions shift the social activities to second semester because they believe the first semester is for students to build their academic excellence. Social activities were integrated into the school curriculum so as to enable the learners release the tension packaged in the academic activities and to make the school more interesting.

However, second semester is the trickiest semester because of the fun and merriments involved. This semester (second) can make or mar the academic performance of many students. It is capable of making students jeopardize their dreams. The semester is full of many social activities such as departmental days, students union government week and political campaigns activities to mention but few.

This is a period many students tend to skip classes. This is the time when lecture rooms won’t be available for lectures because most of it is being used by one department or the other for their days. It is the period that most lecturers won’t have much time for the students because some of them will be invited to grace the occasion (days).

Many students get carried away by the social activities. Some will even go to the extent of going to their friends’ departmental days all in the name of ‘catching fun’. By the time most of them (students) would get their balance, the school would have released continue assessment time table giving them little time to prepare for the task at hand.

My little advice to every students who might fall in the categories of the premises mentioned above is to prioritize the main goal of coming to this citadel of learning over social activities. I’m not actually against you enjoying yourself or catching fun so to say but tailoring and blending your social activities with academic activities is very germane and pertinent.

Apparently, what works for one student may not work for another but many students try to copy the life style of their friends whereas the friend knows how to make up for the wasted time.

Early preparation prevents failure. When you prepare as early as possible, it will be easier for you to cover your course contents.

Identify what works for you as a student in order achieve academic excellence.

Conclusively, don’t be carried away by the fun and merriments packaged in this semester (second) and forget your purpose of coming to higher institution for the semester is tricky.
