We live in a world where ‘night club’ robbers are sentenced to death while rapists gets to walk away freely and continue to commit their devilish act day in day out without remorse. We live in a world where a shoe thief can spend a significant number of time behind bars(with or without proper sentencing) while a corrupt leader/politician and those in authority gets to be worshiped and celebrated.
We live in a world where people don’t really know their rights and are constantly stepped upon by those saddled with the responsibility of protecting them. We live in a world where a female student has to give in to the sexual desires of her lecturer(s) in order to get the desired grades, else she risks spilling over multiple times.
We live in a world where exam malpractice is a sure means to success, while studying hard is somewhat a cliche. We live in a world where dressing up decently (especially for the women folks) is no more a thing of pride and a girl can go the extreme just to be told, by a guy, that she looks beautiful. We live in a world where doing drugs is simply ‘the new cool’, so much so that youths are willing to risk everything ,including their future, just to feel high.
We live in a world where modern slavery is condoned and many innocent kids (mostly with the consent of their patents) are subjected to nerve wrecking hardships and by extension, are denied the opportunity to go to school and dream big. We live in a world where child abuse is taken to a whole new level, so much so that even a toddler isn’t spared. We live in a world where innocent boys (as young as 4) are seen begging on the streets, exposed to all forms if dangers, all in the name of seeking Islamic knowledge.
We live in a world where men mercilessly beat up their ‘significant other’, where marriages crumble on daily basis, leaving us to ponder who really is to blame. We live in a world where it’s normal for a married man to continue to commit adultery and his wife(s) has no right to complain. We live in a world where women/girls are subjected to sexual abuse in IDP camps by those responsible for protecting them, before they can have access to the much needed aids. We live in a world where two or more ethnic/religious groups, having lived side by side for ages, still finds it difficult to tolerate one another and are always waiting for the slightest opportunity to unleash mayhem on each other. We live in a world where elections are not without violence, rigging and thuggery, which sums up our political culture of hatred and bloodshed. We live in a world where religious leaders are willingly used by politicians and those in authority to mislead their followers in exchange for material benefits. We live in a world where kidnapping for ransom thrives excessively and neither the rich nor the poor is spared. We live in a world where employment opportunities are the exclusive right of the wealthy. So when all is said and done, we live in a world where people do expect you to change, especially when it favours them, but they themselves aren’t keen to change.
