The increasing theft of grains and other farm produce at farms in Katsina is becoming a great source of concern to farmers, Daily Trust reports.
It was gathered that the thieves, during the day, disguised as farm owners, pretending to be weeding grasses in bags but end up packing the produce instead.
Farmers spoken to expressed concern over the growing ugly trend which is causing serious setbacks to their efforts.
The state Chairman of the All Farmers Association, Umar Yau Gwajo Gwajo, said the situation is worrisome and called on the authorities concerned to help secure their farms to enable farmers reap their labour.
He said most affected produce are maize, beans and groundnut, noting that the trend will definitely affect farming across the state.
He said government should as a matter of urgency start preparation for dry season farming now to augment and bridge gaps in losses.
Another farmer, Abdullahi advised his colleagues to desist from past habit of storing farm harvest in their respective farms by ensuring they evacuate same to safer storage facilities.
