Thieves reportedly broke into a motorcycle shop belonging to a dealer at Unguwar Atako along Toto road in Abaji Area Council and stole seven brand-new motorcycles worth N9.2 million.

The motorcycle dealer, Ibrahim Ndako Abubakar, while narrating the incident to our reporter on Saturday, said it occurred on Friday around 4 am.

He said the thieves broke into his shop after using a key cutter to destroy eight hard padlocks before entering and making away with the seven bikes, which were still inside their cartons.

He said he came out of his house to perform ablution and proceed to the mosque for Subhi prayers when he discovered that his shop had been burgled.

“It was at that point that I went into the shop and discovered that the eight hard padlocks had been cut, after which the seven bikes that were still inside their cartons were missing,” he said.

Abdullahi, a former councillor who represented the Nuku/Sabon-Gari ward of the council, said the thieves came with a car and made away with the bikes without being traced.

He added, “In fact, there’s a neighbour who fries bean cakes opposite my shop around, who said she saw some people at the shop around 4:20am, but she thought it was me, which is why she couldn’t raise an alarm.”

He said the seven bikes were the “Rubber Rubber” model, which he said cost between N1.2 million and N1.3 million each.

He also said he had reported the incident to relevant security agencies in the area.

“And I have also reported to the soldiers at their checkpoint along the Abaji-Lokoja road that Friday morning, including the vigilantes, about the incident, in case they come across any vehicle conveying bikes inside wooden cartons,” he said.

A police source at the Abaji division also confirmed the incident to our reporter, stating that investigations are still ongoing.

It would be recalled that cases of burglary by suspected hoodlums within the Abaji metropolis have continued to rise over the last two months, as three different shops—a grinding engine shop, an engine oil/motor spare parts shop, and a building materials shop—have been reportedly burgled by suspected hoodlums in the area.
