Katsina is an ancient town with rich culture and historical background. Its mix of traditional setting and western influenced environment makes the state a pleasant place to be. The state boasts of two emirates – Katsina and Daura, each unique in its history.

Gobarau Minaret
Some of the places to visit when in Katsina include the famous Gobarau Minaret which was established in 1348. It was once the tallest building and is believed to be one of the oldest historical monuments in Africa. It was built during the reign of Muhammad Korau (1348 – 1398).
The minaret was built by local craftsmen using sun baked clay and mud, and it had served as a mosque and also a learning centre. The place is now a national monument that draws tourists from far and near, regularly.

Palace of the emir of Katsina
Few kilometres from the minaret is the magnificent palace of the emir of Katsina. The construction of the palace dates back to the 12th Century. The old building still stands tall and strong till date. It is as magnificent as it was in the olden days in spite of its age and the weather conditions it has endured.

National Museum
The National Museum and the first college in the Northern Region, established in 1921, are some places to spare time to visit when in Katsina. The museum houses a lot of historical items and is a good place to learn about the people of Katsina and their origin.

Rafin Dadi and Kayauki
A visit to Katsina without savouring some dried meat popularly called ‘Kilishi’, along with having several cups of fura da nono will be incomplete. Towns like Rafin Dadi and Kayauki, among others, are known the world over for these delicious delicacies.

Kusugu well
The famous Kusugu well in Daura has for long served as an educational research centre. Dug over 1,100 years ago, the well is believed to be the citadel of civilisation in northern Nigeria. For many who have visited the spot, the myth of Bayajidda and the snake resonates with them. Daura is perceived to be the headquarters of Hausas.

For sports lovers, the largest stadium in northern Nigeria – the Karakanda Stadium should not be disregarded. Its architectural masterpiece makes it a place to be for any sporting event.
