The President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said his company is not out to fight the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

He maintained that the two companies are partners in business, pledging to work with the new NNPC management to help secure the country’s energy sector.

According to a statement by the NNPC, on Thursday, the two organisations have pledged to work together to promote mutually beneficial partnerships and foster healthy competition.

The companies made the commitment when Dangote visited the new group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Bashir Bayo Ojulari, at his office in Abuja.

The statement added that the NNPC GCEO and Dangote “committed to enhancing cooperation to support Nigeria’s energy security and promote shared prosperity for its people.”

Speaking, Dangote said, “There is no competition between us, we are not here to compete with NNPC Ltd. NNPC is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of co-operation between the two organisations.”

He also congratulated the GCEO and senior management team of the NNPC on their recent appointments.

He expressed confidence that with the capable team at the NNPC, the company would overcome its challenges.

Responding, the NNPC GCEO assured Dangote of a mutually beneficial partnership geared towards fair competition and meaningful collaboration.

Daily Trust had reported that Dangote was at loggerheads with the previous NNPC leadership under Mele Kyari.

There was tension over low crude supply to the refinery under the naira-for-crude deal which President Tinubu approved for local refineries with the 650,000-barrel Dangote Refinery in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos used as pilot for the initiative.

Also, both Dangote and NNPC engaged in subtle price war raising concerns about issues of transparency in fuel pricing.

However, Dangote recently expressed optimism with the appointment of Ojulari, saying the new leadership has been supportive of his $20bn refinery.

In a statement following his visit to President Tinubu, Dangote noted that the recent activities and structural reforms introduced by NNPC Limited serve as strong indicators of the organisation’s renewed focus on transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

“The calibre of individuals at the helm, and their deliberate, reform-driven agenda, demonstrate a commitment to fostering a culture of performance and professionalism.

“We are confident that this team will address systemic challenges, align with the President’s vision of a $1 trillion economy, and reposition NNPC Limited for operational excellence and long-term sustainability.” he said.
