His debut novel, Monkeys in Heaven, is being handled by a frontline South African publisher. I first met Henry Akubuiro in 2007 at an event organised by my friend Bookshop owner (Pen and Pages) and an executive of the Bookshop owners association in Abuja at the time, Juliet Chukkas. He sat quietly in the hall and when he was introduced I was surprised to find that the man who turns in pages and pages of literary material every week is a very reserved man. I was so intrigued but made the point of commending his page which I had followed over the years. A literary page is a labour of love by any literary editor and whatever paper they write for.From then on, he became a kindred spirit. When I found that he had also written award winning fiction and prize winning children’s stories, I was intrigued. Henry, as you would find in this interview, loves books, book lovers and anything connected to the literary world. His passion is infectious.
