Investigation by Sunday Trust also reveals that the Dome has a radius of 26.5 meters and a diameter of 53 meters and can accommodate 9,000 persons. The compartment is made up of 320 panels.

According to the head of the engineers who constructed the Dome, Mr. Paul Hermes, it is 10 years old and took just six days to construct.

The Dome, which is in the family of the famous Dutch designer Klass De Boer, is also known as the Millennium Dome.

When the first sketches were made it became clear the plan was feasible. The design was then created in a 3D design programme and the measurement was calculated complete with a circular, mezzanine floor inside.

Millennium Dome’s strong combination of technical ingenuity and practical use can be found in this unique structure, as in every other temporary accommodation of De Boer.

Until THISDAY brought De Boer to Africa, its services in the continent were limited to the provision of temporary accommodation for the United Nations and special structures for national holidays.

Since its construction, the dome has carved a niche for itself as a hub of high profile social events prominent among which are the reception of the first daughter’s wedding, the phenomenal town hall meeting which was organized by the Thisday newspapers and recently, the maiden Justice Chukwudifu Oputa awards.
