He noted that the use of card readers is the contemporary practice in global electoral affairs, wondering why some politicians would oppose it.
Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, the lawmaker, who is of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also noted that the court’s verdict, which asked the INEC to include Young Democratic Party (YDP) in the list of political parties for the polls was a setback for the electoral process.
The lawmaker, who represents Omupo Constituency in the state Assembly, said the judgment was a bad precedent for the nation’s democracy.
“Honestly, it’s a setback for our electoral process, and it’s a setback for the general elections we all expected and anticipated would come and go.”
The lawmaker explained that the system would deepen Nigeria’s democracy, adding: “it is a very good idea to use card reader. Use of card reader is a modern technology platform to curb rigging of elections. This election would not be like the previous ones when people would do multiple thumb printing or put ballot papers into ballot boxes.
