Having been raised at a young age at The Little Saints Orphanage, Michael George soared above life’s obstacles and pursued his passion for music. With eyes on the world stage, Michael is on a meteoric rise to fame. He had a chat with Weekend Magazine.
Weekend Magazine: What inspired you into gospel music?
Michael George: My love for God. I love doing the things of God. I love to worship God through songs, I see how God reaches out to people when they lift up their voices to worship, and I see myself as a tool God has chosen to use to bless people.
WM: With the growing trend of musicians switching to hip hop due to popular demand, do you see yourself towing that line?
George: I don’t see myself towing that line. I have a focus, I know where and what God wants me to do. Probably those switching were in it for the wrong reasons. This is a call to service for me; it is my ministry and place.
WM: What or who inspires your lyrics?
George: I draw inspiration from the word of God. The word of God is spirit and Life.
WM:  Aside singing, are you into any other business or profession?
George: I am a graduate of Business Administration, I’ve done a couple of jobs in the past, but right now I am more focused on my passion for music … as Jesus said … “don’t you know I am after my Father’s business?”  I am after my Father’s (God) business.
WM: At what age did you start singing and when did you decide to make a career of it?
George: I started singing at a very young age; the passion grew right from my secondary school days and became stronger when I was in the university. I remember how I saved up my three months allowance to get a guitar, recorded my first song and all that … all that happen while in the university (Lagos State University). It became a career in 2014 and in 2015 I got signed to ‘Rona,’ the entertainment group.
WM: Since you joined the industry, what challenges have you faced?
George: The industry is filled with a lot of interesting things (smiles). I won’t like to focus on the negatives but I am where I am now by the grace of God. The challenges are irrelevant because God’s grace is sufficient. They can only be stepping stones to greatness.
WM: Is there any significance to you dropping your new singles on your birthday?
George: Not really, usually, you expect to receive gifts and all that on your birthday, but I choose to give those songs as a gift to people. Those songs were given as a gift from the Holy Spirit, and I understand that when God blesses you, it is for you to be a blessing to people. That was just it.
WM: What are your hopes for the future in your music career?
George: My hope is in the Lord basically. Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11 says – “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you a future and a hope.” All I want continually is to be a channel through which God blesses His people.
